READ: ONE NATION READING TOGETHER
2008
Scholastic launched the inaugural READ: One Nation Reading Together campaign that is aimed at fostering good reading habits in children and to make excellent books available to those who have limited access to them. The inaugural READ campaign kicked off with the support of the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Ministry of Women, Family, and Community Development and its Department of Social Welfare. Scholastic donated a book for every child that read for 2,008 seconds. As a result of this campaign, 75 schools with a total of 29,036 students participated in the reading campaign. 29,036 books donated by Scholastic were given to 35 children homes nominated by the Department of Social Welfare and 80 schools nominated by MOE.
